Trial speed tables go in on Peninsula Drive near Bryant Park

TRAVERSE CITY — UpNorthLive reported Sunday that trial speed tables are in place on Peninsula Drive near Bryant Park. WPBN/WGTU’s Adam Fierens wrote that city leaders are testing a way to cut speeding on a busy stretch: raised roadway sections with a longer flat surface and gradual ramps, unlike a traditional speed bump. Officials will monitor traffic speeds and conditions during the trial and remove the tables before winter, the station said.

Separately, The Ticker reported that the Michigan Department of Transportation has announced a nighttime detour on US-31 in Traverse City this week while DTE Energy installs gas lines under the highway between Milliken Road and Fair Street. Closures run 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting Monday evening, Aug. 24, through Friday morning, Aug. 28. Monday and Tuesday nights close the westbound outside lane; Wednesday and Thursday nights close US-31 and detour traffic to Garfield and Eighth Street, The Ticker said. The Ticker also reported Monday that the U.S. Army named Camp Grayling — about 50 miles from Traverse City — as one of five sites where private companies can test drones and counter-drone technology. Camp Grayling is the only Midwest site among ranges listed in Utah, Arizona, Mississippi, and Morocco, the paper said.
